2020 was a challenging year for the entire world. The COVID-19 pandemic affected everyone and will likely be considered one of the most significant events of the last hundred years. However, the human race is resilient and adaptable, so this has also been a year of learning and change. Fortunately, the light at the end of the tunnel can be seen.
This was also a challenging year for Mudafy, but that's what startups are built for - startups challenge the status quo, the "normal", the traditional, and this is what we love doing at Mudafy.
In 2019, we launched Mudafy in the middle of a crisis in Argentina and proved there was a huge opportunity to improve the experience of buying your home. YCombinator took note of that and backed us soon after. This year, in 2020, we embraced the journey of scaling Mudafy by launching in Mexico, making tons of new customers happy and creating a product & technology that is taking us to the next level. 🚀
🧑🤝🧑👭👫👬 A journey with an amazing team
Building a company is a team adventure and this year we grew our team from 16 to 59 people. We are proud to share that we have a diverse team, made up of different nationalities, backgrounds and experiences, that has a shared passion for helping people find their home.
🇲🇽 The Mexican adventure
We launched in Mexico in June, in the middle of the pandemic and since then, with over 10,000 properties for sale in our marketplace, we became the largest tech-enabled real estate broker in terms of listings. We did over 1,000 showings of properties while partnering up with over 300 real estate brokers. And to top it all off, we also expanded to a new market inside Mexico, the Mayan Riviera.
🥳 Made dozens of customers happy
In general, buying a home is one of the biggest and most emotional transactions in a person’s lifetime. Over the past few months, we’ve made dozens of people happy by finding their perfect home. In some cases, we also helped customers with their mortgage, which was crucial in helping them achieve this life-changing milestone.
For those product-oriented folks out there, this happiness resulted in an NPS of 81 in Mexico in the last month of the year and a 4.7★ Google Review rating in Argentina.
💻 Created technology and products that are a key part of this success
We developed tools and algorithms to make our team of agents more efficient while ensuring a consistent customer experience. With our internal tools, we are already managing the entire transaction process, which includes qualifying customers, scheduling showings and finding the perfect home match.
For those efficiency nerds out there, this is taking our transactions per agent to a productivity level close to Redfin, one of the top PropTech companies in the world.
😄 It's been a fun journey, with a few fun facts
We also did things we didn't imagine doing so early in the decade, such as selling a house entirely online, from showing to closing. (Well, it wasn’t entirely online, but that was because the last step required a notary to be physically present!) This seemed like something from the future, but it happened to be our first transaction in Mexico.
Oddly enough, this pandemic year we built two great offices, but spent most of our time at home, doing many (virtual) hangouts. Like everyone else, we learned how to proactively mute and unmute as well as turn off our cameras! 😂
🎉 But we are just getting started
We have big and bold plans for 2021, which include becoming the largest proptech in Mexico. There are many projects that we started this year that will see the light in the next few months, and also many others that we can't mention yet. 🤐
